Shopping: Fall Footwear at Its Finest...

Wowza! Is anyone else really loving the escapism of fall footwear? Between the natural disasters & the man-made calamities, I desperately needed a trip to the Neiman Marcus shoe department. This always on point resource of luxe goodness did not disappoint in the flights of fancy department. Fur trimmed heels? Check. Jacquard & ribbon adorned sandals? Double check. Dusty rose velvet slides with a gorgeously huge knot on the front? Sign me up. Gucci Marmont suede mules with a stacked block heel... in rosy pink? I am so feeling you, queen. A 4-inch stiletto with a massive embroidered butterfly on the back? Yes, please. Fanciful shoes... you are giving me life right now. Thank you.

If you also need a break from the news and a bit of fashion brilliance to remind you that life is indeed great, miraculous and amazing, I've got six pretty pairs for you to ogle at below. xoxo!

Shopping: Brilliant Hacks for Practically Effortless Last-Minute Needs...

Whether you're pulling together an outfit for a fete with no time to spare or wrapping up gifts for a special someone, we all have moments when heading out to shop simply isn't in the cards. My solution? Year-round I use Nordstrom & Neiman Marcus for solving my "need it now" woes. Here's how it works.

Did you know at Nordstrom you can shop online and pick up in the store closest to you? While browsing the site you can even search for items only in "your" store (with the ability to toggle between locations if you're near several Nordstrom locations. The kicker? Pay online and they'll even WALK IT OUTSIDE to your car. No need to even walk in the doors of this esteemed shop. And lest you think you'll pay more, Nordstrom does an amazing job of offering price matching (done for you automatically) on categories across the board from shampoo to luxury handbags. Honestly, it doesn't get much better than this. Shop from your jammies in bed and swing by for free same-day curbside pickup. All of your problems solved. Another option for gifting? E-Gift Cards, letting the recipient have the fun of shopping when and where they want for exactly the items they covet. And did I mention curbside pickup? Shop in your slippers, drive in your slippers, live life in your slippers. It doesn't get much easier.

Oh, Neimans. You make my shopping life so easy. Whether you're shopping for yourself or searching for special gifts, this legendary retailer offers a few cool "no-fail" options. First, buy online & pick up in store. Much like Nordstrom, your item will be ready shortly with an email sent to you alerting you it's ready for pickup. While you do have to pop into the store, they will typically offer you bottled water & their signature lemon cookies for your inconvenience. Stepping up from that, you can send someone an item via GiftNow, meaning you can select a Stuart Weitzman boot or AG Jean but let the recipient select the exact size and style or color giving them the gift of choice (always appreciated). You look like a total boss giving them exactly what they want, and they enjoy the freedom of choosing the version of the gift that best suits them. Virtual Gift Cards are also a great idea because everyone loves them. The best part? Those gift cards are good at Horchow and Bergdorf Goodman too. Now that's luxe.

My love for net-a-porter is no secret. Free shipping and no tax equal one happy girl. From my favorite nail polish to my beloved Super Elixir, this online luxury destination offers more than meets the eye. My favorite candles can be tossed in the cart alongside a book and my dream wallet and I know that three days from now an elegant black box with grosgrain ribbon will appear at my door, giving me to the posh department store experience without ever leaving my door. Best gift idea ever? Their virtual gift card, giving yourself or a loved one access to whatever their pretty little heart desires. No wrapping necessary whatsoever.

Saint Laurent Oversized Acetate Sunglasses // Gucci GG Marmont Top Handle Bag // Tom Ford Fling It Lip Duo // Light Wonder Skin Perfecting Foundation // Tom Ford Love Lust Cheek Color // The Super Elixir Green Superfood

While you won't find Prada at these spots, you' can make sure you get a gift to your bestie (or tights for your daughter's ballet class) the very day you purchase them. As crazy as it seems, Amazon Prime delivers almost everything same-day or (if you're shopping to late in the day) next-day service. Don't overlook the convenience of having paper towels and household essentials delivered to your doorstep so you never need set foot in a big-box store again. Speaking of which, Target makes it super easy to shop online and enjoy free shipping - or pick up that day for a major time saving opportunity. If you're prone to walking out with unexpected "finds" at your local Target, shopping online then picking up at customer service will curb your bad habits and get you in and out in less than five minutes. Win-win.

Shopping: Pro Tips for Navigating Black Friday + Cyber Week Like a Boss...

{image  credit }

{image credit}

Oh, Black Friday. We have turned this day off work into a massive shopping beast, haven't we? Gratefully, retailers have completely caught up with technology and are shifting their efforts into meeting us where we are: on our phones and in our jammies in bed. Still, navigating the onslaught of promotions like a boss takes a bit of skill. Here are my pro tips for keeping your wits abut you while crossing those must-have items off your list in style.

In my experience the best sales truly are online and you can enjoy comparison shopping while sipping coffee in your pajamas from your bed. It truly doesn't get much better than that!
Ideally, you have a list of things you've been keeping an eye on for yourself, as well as a list of those you need to buy presents for this year. In my case I need a black tote, loafer pumps and winter boots for myself. Girly gifts for my mini-me's and a gift for my husband. Stumped for ideas? I've made the ultimate gift guide for everyone on your list.
Know your goals (tackling the above list, staying under XYZ dollars) and stick to them. If you've established a holiday budget, commit to it and make it work. This won't be the last sale in the world, but be prepared to snap up what may very well be an item that sells out for good. By creating a list (see Step 2) your establishing your budget you'll be ready to pounce when you do discover a Saint Laurent bag on sale.
Now is not the time to branch out. I stick to my favorite brands and retailers for quality items and reasonable return policies. Also, this gives me an informed baseline for pricing and allows me to spy a good deal when I see it because I'm familiar with the items and typical (non-sale) pricing. See my one-stop black Friday roundup of retailers & offers to get your started.
Beauty lovers & cashmere sweater devotees should use this as an opportunity to stock up on our favorites. I love using sale seasons to fill in voids in my closet and grab an extra jar of my favorite nighttime moisturizer. Exercise your right to be a savvy shopper and stock up on those luxury basics you adore. Try not to me distracted by the discount racks full of potential wardrobe mishaps.
This is a big one for me. I love to buy everything important online (see my go-to list sources). Retailers like Net-a-Porter deliver in luxurious black boxes tied up with a bow (all year long, not just on the holidays) - and free shipping. Need it now? You can buy online and pick up at Nordstrom or Neimans later the same day - OR let them ship it for free. I use this service constantly and it saves me time, money and stress. Nordstrom will even walk your items out to you curbside.

This is how I personally navigate the holidays like a boss. I absolutely love the power of shopping online and can't imagine showing up at 5 am for an early morning "deal" when I can merely fli open my MacBook and click "order" while sipping my morning coffee. I like to peruse the outdoor shopping centers in person for fun once it gets chilly. It's more fun with family and friends while sipping cocoa and enjoying the bustle of the crowds without any personal expectations of having to find that "perfect" gift while battling long lines.

Shopping: Striking Gold at The Neiman Marcus Holiday Sale...

These online sales can be dizzying for even the most seasoned shoppers. Discounts being touted everywhere and little guidance to recognize a true value when you see one. With a little previous knowledge (meaning: I know how NM patterns their sales), some categorizing and a critical eye you can make sense of it all and actually save on both holiday gifts and your regular beauty buys.

I wanted to present my recommended strategy for striking gold at the current Neiman Marcus's current pre-Christmas sale. When factoring in the free shipping (and free returns) and their gift card deal. What gift card deal? EARN UP TO A $500 GIFT CARD by using code GC4YOU. For example, get a $125 gift card back on a $500 purchase, sweet! There are some terrific opportunities to score a little for him, a little for them and a gift or necessity for yourself. One suggestion: hone in on those beauty purchases here. There are typically excluded from the the offers, so this is a GREAT chance to replenish your perfume inventory and restock your winter skin care purchases.

Be certain to use code GC4YOU. at checkout when you shop for these great gifts for everyone in your family. And don't miss out on special finds like those 7 for All Mankind jeans above! Getting a sweet deal on these would be lovely, right? Happy hunting today, friends!

Shopping: The Online Sales Are Insane Today & You Should Absolutely Take Advantage of Them...

I shop online almost exclusively, and trust me when I tell you I know a great opportunity to shop when I see one. And friends... it's happening! We've discussed this here before: I'm against shopping for the sake of a "good deal" or merely adding "things" to your life. It's about having fewer possessions yet ensuring that each of them are of excellent quality and of high personal value to you. That said, the sales happening for Black Friday are actually amazing this year and have kicked into high gear right off the bat. I'd love to share some of the more exciting opportunities to finally nab "the one" you've been admiring and check that "must have" off your list! Ready? Let's dive in... (note: ALL offer free shipping!)

Remember... print your LIST and tackle this with a strategy. Invest in the best and focus on your dream acquisitions. Don't squander a good sale buying the wrong item at a killer price. Shopping: Indulge in Pre-Black Friday Online Steals...

{image  via Shopbop }

{image via Shopbop}

I don't know about you, but often I wait and wait for a great deal only to realize the "good" deal I passed on was a steal. I'm reminded of this again today with the emergence of a few REALLY good online sales. Since I'm heeding my own advice (and not relying on Cyber Monday to save the day) I wanted to share a few favorites:

SHOPBOP: 15-25% off your entire purchase, depending upon your purchase size (really good chance to get what you've been stalking!). Use GOBIG15 at checkout.

TORY BURCH: 30% off any order $250 or more. VERY good sale from Ms. Burch, as I don't think the offer will get sweeter next week (and your faves will definitely sell out).

REVOLVE CLOTHING: This personal favorite has an insane sale with 80% off some items. Shop now before pieces you love disappear. They most certainly will.

ANTHROPOLOGIE: Dresses are 25% off and free shipping once your cart tickles the $150 mark. Use code HURRAH to celebrate in style. For dresses, a great offer, but for other items I'm sure we will see a bigger sale coming soon.

NORDSTROM: Is scooping them all with a massive 40% off clearance in the works. Nordstrom sells out FAST so don't wait if you're ogling an item! Bonus: buy online, pick up in store. My busy girl shopping secret!

These are all pre-Black Friday deals. I'll let you know once bigger offers swing in. I LOVE a good deal on luxe and I assume you do too! For Shopbop & Tory, I don't imagine the deal will get sweeter. Shop wisely, friends!

Shopping: Diving Into Shopbop's Massive Fall Sale...

It's here! The much anticipated 25% off fall event from Shopbop. Run, don't walk, to seal the deal those items you've had in your cart for ages. Remember: It's all about nailing down those key pieces you are already planning to add to your wardrobe. This is the time for targeted, focused attention to getting exactly what you've been hunting. At these prices your size will go quickly, of course, so hustle, sister. Use code INTHEFAM25 at both Shopbop (for you) and East Dane (for him).

Shopping: Bringing Home Coco...

Oh, Chanel. How I love thee. You are without a doubt one of the crown jewels of Paris Fashion Week and most certainly hold a coveted spot on any style lover's closet shelves. I love you. I adore you. Yet I am astonished at how prices for bags and jackets have risen steadily & sharply in such a short time. To say Chanel is a wise fashion investment is an understatement. The value has doubled in just a short time leaving many brand devotees reeling. Looking at the shopping landscape today I am incredibly grateful for the wise choices I made just a few years ago to add those interlocking C's to my handbag collection.

I may not have addressed this here before, because I felt it was implied. But I'd like to offer a few key beliefs I have about luxury goods. First, I'm not label obsessed - I'm quality and design driven. There are many popular designer brands that I just don't find attractive. There are collections that offer questionable quality at outrageous prices. There are labels that fan girls clamor for that I find baffling and unappealing. I am a quality seeker. I buy for life and see each new acquisition as a long term investment.

Which leads me to my second point: I loathe counterfeits. A quality seeker doesn't settle for imitation. A label chaser does. It's not about owning things to impress others. It's about only possessing things which make you happy and bring you personal joy. Chanel bags (authentic pieces) are exceptionally well made to exacting specifications. Their caviar leather is some of the most durable (read: busy girl friendly) I've ever found. Their unique chain-meets-leather straps are bizarrely comfortable and sensible. And yes, they are glamorous. But without those other hallmarks (quality, intelligent design and durability) they would serve no purpose and therefore deserve no attention.

I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the various labels and discover for yourself if they are to your liking. Avoid following trends. Invest only in pieces you find beautiful and worthy of your resources. And if and when you do decide a brand is for you (fashion, interiors, home accessory or otherwise) always make purchases from reputable sources offering the real deal.

So... what does a girl without a sizable trust fund do today? She shops smart, that's what she does. She carefully eyes her prey and hunts the exact pieces she wants. She plans her purchases and buys direct from the source or reputable retailers like Bergdorf, Selfridges, Saks, Neiman Marcus or the mothership Chanel itself.

But she also benefits greatly from the closet purgers of the world (self included) and sets her eyes on stunning pieces of Chanel history (using the term "history" loosely, as many items found on the sites I'm about to share are actually brand spanking new). She understands her style. She has a handle on exactly what pieces she needs to add to her list (the power of a list should never be underestimated) and she knows exactly what corners of the web to explore.

Need help navigating? Lucky you... I've got you covered! From attainable goods (think: perfume and vintage bracelets) to killer deals (new Chanel caviar wallets fresh in the box) there are legitimate, authentic incredible finds just waiting to be discovered. If you're a Chanel fan, come along and join me on my hunt for all things fabulous and surprisingly attainable.

Here's how: familiarize yourself with Fashionphile, The Real Real and One Kings Lane. All of these offer authenticated, genuine Chanel products. If the idea of wearing vintage clothing gives you chills (the bad kind), you'll find comfort in sticking to accessories like bracelets, necklaces and handbags. Want that fresh out of the box feel? I don't blame you. Filter those same sites by "new" or "like new" to discover amazing pieces that have either truly never been worn or are in pristine condition.

Still dipping your toes into the Chanel waters? Consider adding a few new scents to your vanity (Coco Mademoiselle is lovely) and trying out the brand's incredible skin care and cosmetics. A Chanel lipstick will add new levels of happiness to your life in untold ways. Their iconic Vamp nail lacquer will turn your pretty digits into street style stars. Pro tip: shop the Chanel site for exclusives and hand-to-find discontinued items offered only at Chanel.

My point? Luxury is available to you and always attainable with a little know-how. If you are suddenly craving Chanel after seeing all those PFW images, get to know the look, the vibe, the quality and then begin hunting down special pieces to add to your wardrobe that make you feel like a runway star. Never settle for impostors. There are always intelligent ways to bring home Coco. And you, my dear, are always worth the effort of seeking out true original luxury.

Shopping: Luxe for Less...

What you may not know about me is that I'm a major deal finder. I am definitely a champagne taste girl. Do you know what I find exhilarating? Scoring exceptional things on a rosé budget. It thrills me in ways I can hardly explain. I'm the luxe shopper who can't wait to share (if asked) about the killer score on this or that.

My philosophy? ONLY purchase what you really truly, truly love. Don't settle. Ever. Simply do without an object rather than "fill the gap" with a temporary "it'll do" substitute. Save up or hold out until you find the EXACT item you have been searching for or dreaming of and then - and only then - do you invest. This goes for everything from plain white tee shirts to high end furniture. You simply wait until you find the precise item of your dreams. One life, one opportunity, right?

So when I am on the prowl for something nice, I size up the landscape deciding the best source for this or that. While dubious at first, it seems Amazon has spawned a new One Kings Lane style flash-sale site offering everything from copper clad cookware to Saint Laurent bags. The later of which is of great interest to me.

Why is MyHabit so intriguing? That lovely lambskin bag you've been coveting is now seriously discounted. Jason Wu, Valentino, Prada, Chloe, Fendi - the gang is all here. And since we've developed a love affair with Amazon's lightening fast shipping and easy peasy returns, it instills confidence in purchasing high end goods. Have I pulled the trigger on a purchase yet? No. Still stalking. But I'm sharing a few fab finds below and sharing a $20 credit for your first spin around the MyHabit block.

But remember... only invest in what you truly love! Search to find what makes your heart sing - not what's a "good deal" or on sale. But if one of these beauties gives you goosebumps and is on sale, more power to you!

Shopping: Pink With a Purpose...

When is a new lipstick more than just a new lipstick? When a portion of the purchase price is donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a cause near and dear to my heart. Many of the lovely women in my family have been affected by the disease and (hands up to God) these strong women are still causing a stir today living healthy lives. Survivors.

While awareness month doesn't officially begin until October, it's already on my mind. What I like about the BCRF products are that they are gorgeous and covetable with or without having a visible relationship to the foundation. Like the women themselves, these items are not defined by their contribution to the cure - they are appreciated for the spectacular creations that they are.

Estee Lauder, the driving force behind the BCRF always offers stunning products and exclusive goodies raising awareness and charitable contributions in the most elegant way. But they are far from the only brand out there waving their pink flag. Also on my radar are Ann Taylor's gorgeous jewelry intros which allow the brand to donate a generous 50% of your purchase towards the cure.

I've rounded up these and other stylish goods than can bring a smile to your face and help bring a cure to this beast of a disease. Giving directly to the charity is always applauded, but if you were on your way to purchase a new lip color, boxing gloves or a fabulous new candle, why not do it in a way that gives back? Chic goods that give to finding a cure are always a welcome addition to a shopping list. Here's to the undeniable power of pink!

Shopping: A Fresh Look at An Old Favorite...

I have a confession to make. For that first "real" job I was quite proud of my sophisticated and slightly preppy Ann Taylor wardrobe. I felt so grown up striding into the art department in my flawless wardrobe, courtesy of my obsessive relationship with the brand.

And then, as so often happens, I began to shake it up and discovered niche brands and slowly steered away from my trusty wardrobe-building mainstay. That's not to say I haven't picked up a cashmere scarf here, a killer jacket there and a few great accessories from the brand over the years - but my once intense love affair definitely waned. While I certainly loved the process of adding new looks to my closet, I definitely missed the predictability of price points and quality that the chain offered.

And yet... here I am today deep diving the Ann site looking at more modern silhouettes and a slightly more fashion forward overall style. Perhaps even a little boho and a little rock 'n roll edge. Those pencil skirts and work attire must-have's may still be in the inventory mix, but they now stand alongside leather moto jackets, flared denim and spike earrings.

If I were describing Ann like a friend, I'd say she's loosened up a bit and isn't such a workaholic these days. She's the very embodiment of classic with an slight edge. Don't get me wrong, she's not a downtown rocker chick with a bad boy on her arm. She's simply learned to balance those corner office goals with plenty of after hours fun. Oh, and those prices? Those are definitely still very appealing, especially since promotions seem to abound and no one does a sale quite like Ann Taylor (hello, sweet savings!).

Since my closet is now the epicenter of a major overhaul (buh-bye almost every garment I own), I am feeling the acute pain of needing to source a few new pieces. This is what led me to the site this evening and a realization that I may still have a big soft spot in my heart for the brand. Imagine investing reasonable amounts of dough on quality pieces that last pretty much forever. Yes, it's like that.

I'm a different shopper now that I was in my early career. I won't be lining my closet walls with a singular dominant label, but this loyal brand has grabbed my attention again. It's time I gave it a fresh look and a new opportunity to shine in the mix with my other longtime favorites. It'll be nice getting reacquainted and seeing how we've both changed.

(By the way, they are indeed having a major sale this weekend. Use code SHOP60 for 60% off fall & sale items. Enjoy!

Shopping: Tory's Jewelbox on Paris’ Rue Saint-Honoré...

Once upon a time I loved Tory Burch shoes. Loved them. My closet shelves can attest to that declaration. Wedges, flats, boots and more. Tory offered fabulous quality for a not terribly unreasonable price. For the logo averse, a savvy shopper could avoid rampant branding by opting for her more subtle options with discreet use of her iconic medallion.

Somewhere along the line I feel for other shoe peddlers... JImmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman and others beckoned with their equally fabulous heels. But I do admit to appreciating Tory's ongoing brand evolution and her expansion into lifestyle offerings. Acrylic & brass goods, picture frames, tableware and beauty are all part of her expanding empire.

In case you too have been missing out on Ms. Burch's general fabulousness, I thought I'd share a few pix of her new Rue Saint-Honoré flagship store and some of her more noteworthy goods for your vanity and desktop. No one offers gold accents quite like Tory and it's fun to celebrate the general gorgeousness of these pieces. Even for the "logo allergic" amongst us :)

Shopping: Louboutin Pumps & Polishes for All...

The single shoe every fashion editor can agree upon: the nude pump. This leg lengthening, silhouette slimming, go with everything wardrobe staple is a must-have according to every Nina Garcia out there. And yet, "nude" is that elusive shade that varies for every woman. Well, Louboutin is striving to bridge the skin tone gap by expanding their definition of the color. Now in five shades and a variety of style, you too can rock a pump that comes close to matching your unique version flesh, whether that be fair blush or rich chestnut. Did I mention, new nail colors were released as well? A match made in nudist heaven.

Still not convinced you need a nude heel? Dig a little deeper into your closet and your "what to wear" process and you might be swayed by the simplicity of this universally flattering option. Let these three experts share their reasons for adding this neutral pump to your footwear collection.

Convinced? See the full collection of pumps & polishes at Bergdorf Goodman

Shopping: Palm Tree Chic...

If internet uproar is to be believed, I should be staunchly against Lilly Pulitzer for Target. But, sorry... it's fresh and adorable. And yes, we're headed up to go see (what's left of) it. While most will be fussing over the dresses (which are amazing), I'll be hunting for those chic home goods. Colorful glasses, glam textured white dishes with gold rims. It's all quite pretty. It's very in line with Lilly's aesthetic and I'm eager to seek inspiration from seeing it in person. Prayers up to the palm tree gods that those sweet coffee cups are still available!

Shopping: Exploring Terrain's Bounty of Natural Goodness...

Have you nosed around Terrain? Anthropologie's sister brand is less about fashion and more about a very focused selection of nature-derived and inspired lifestyle goods. Terrain's aim is to merge the idea of house and garden and I believe they do a lovely job of filling that flowering, budding niche.

Locally sourced plants and artisan goods are what you should come seeking. Think: gorgeous dried floral wreaths, hand-poured peony-infused soy candles and hand-carved sustainably crafted cutting boards and you've got the idea.

There's a nod to flowers everywhere you look and the overall effect of the site is one of romance. Below are a few of my favorite little items from their online shop, perfect for Valentine's Day or just a sweet way to say "I love you" to friends, sisters, moms or even yourself.

Green thumb? Immerse yourself in their Greenhouse section where you'll find all you need to foster a love of gardening and growing your own flowers, herbs and food. On that note, why send cut flowers for Valentine's Day when you could send a potted plant that will last for as long as your recipient cares for it? I love the Raisin Pie Orchid myself. It even comes in a gorgeous urn.

Happy shopping & even happier gardening to you.

Shopping: Beautiful Bargains via Net-a-Porter's Sale...

I only love shopping sales when it means I can score timeless classics at great prices. Net-a-Porter's clearance is still going strong today. Be warned: some great finds are final sale but others are an ADDITIONAL discount of 20% off. While it's tempting to go crazy grabbing fashion :"steals" I have learned to stick to tried and true looks to make sure that my bargain discovery is truly worthy of the coveted closet space it will require. I've found a few pieces I think are great choices. Pieces you're sure to love for years to come (or at least I would!) Enjoy using code 20SALE to snag your investment pieces at the best price. Happy shopping. :)

I love these shimmery gold strappy sandals. Originally $1465. They are now $293 and your size might still be available. You. Are. Welcome. :)

Seven days of silk Stella McCartney style for about $60 total. These blush silk beauties with ruffled hems & embroidered days of the week are perfect for sleeping.
